Do you remember your first job? Mine was at Dawson’s Yogurt at Southlake Mall. I made $3.15 per hour – which was OVER minimum wage at the time. I had high hopes for my paycheck. I was going to Europe! It may sound far-fetched, but I did end up going. When you don’t have a mortgage or have to pay for your own food, you can dream big and make it happen.
Years later, I was eating rice and beans for lunch in order to pay a mortgage and still have money left over to go to Florida. Not once did I question, “Why do I have money left over”?
It’s an interesting question…why do some people have abundance? Why do some not?
It doesn’t always feel like we have an abundance. With gas prices soaring and the price of beef at the supermarket, it feels like we are stretched. But imagine how it would feel now if you were stretched before the prices went up.
Generosity doesn’t mean we give away all we have. It means we look around and see who is being stretched and find a way to help. It means being intentional about living within our means so that our focus can be on Jesus and not on the things of this world. It means saying, “I’ve got some left over….let me help.”
When we are unified around that idea, and we open our doors to a diverse group of people who bring their own talents, we can move mountains. With God, nothing is impossible.
This Sunday, we will see how scripture shows us the beauty of unity AND diversity working together. We hope to see you there!
Until Everyone Hears,
