Aim Higher: Relearning How to Love

Last week, we started a journey. We talked about moving from a religion about God to a real relationship with Him. It’s about trading performance for presence. But what happens next? Once we step away from the checklist, what do we step into?

This is where it gets exciting. We get to aim higher.

It’s so easy for our faith to get tangled up in rules. We learn what’s “right” and “wrong,” and suddenly, our main goal is to stick to the script. But Jesus called us to something so much bigger than just following rules. He called us to love. This week, we’re going to explore how to unlearn the habits of religion and relearn the art of loving people the way God does.

The Limits of “Good Enough”

Religion often gives us a measuring stick. It tells us what to do to be considered “good.” Go to church, read your Bible, don’t do these things, and you’re set. The problem is, this system creates a ceiling. We aim for “good enough” instead of aiming for true transformation. We settle for not breaking the rules instead of actively building something beautiful.

This is the very thing Jesus pushed back against. He saw people who were experts in the law but had completely missed the point. They were so focused on the fine print that they had forgotten how to love. They had mastered the act of judging but had failed at the art of compassion.

When our faith is just a set of rules, it becomes restrictive. It puts God in a box and puts people in categories. It’s a safe, predictable system, but it’s not the abundant life we were promised. It’s time to break out of that system. It’s time to aim for a higher standard.

Join us Sunday as we aim higher!

P.S. – This is a GREAT series to INVITE a friend to. If you know someone who questions “organized religion,” then this series is for them!
