It’s that time again…
a season that is meant to slow down the hustle and bustle,
a sacred window to be still and breathe deeply.
We’re stepping into Lent, and whether this is your first journey through these forty days or your fortieth, there’s an unmistakable buzz in the air at Trinity UMC—a buzz that’s all about transformation.
Lent’s not just a countdown to Easter; it’s our calling card for spiritual renewal. Think of it like spring cleaning for the soul, or better yet, a spiritual tune-up. We’re calling all hearts and hands on deck because it’s time to get our inner houses in order.
Let’s start with Ephesians 2:10. It says, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Can you feel the weight and wonder of that? You’re designed for greatness, crafted with care for a purpose that’s just yours to claim. A claim that starts with love and generosity.
Love, Fellowship, and Giving: Where Magic Happens
You know the feeling when you’re surrounded by folks who get you, who stand by you, who laugh with you and sometimes at you (all in good fun, of course)? That’s love and fellowship, and that’s where the real magic of community happens. Throughout Lent, let’s pledge to be those people for each other—creating spaces filled with chuckles, support, and maybe even a few tears, but most of all, with an abundance of love.
If you’ve been in church the past two Sundays, you’ve heard me say that we want to challenge you to move towards tithing for the season of Lent. We believe so much in the transformational power of generosity, that we will refund your donation if it puts a hardship on your family or you don’t feel that it makes a difference. Prayerfully consider what you might give during the season of Lent and see where God leads you.
And sure, Lent is a time for repentance. But let’s reframe that—repentance isn’t about dwelling on the past; it’s about changing course with a hopeful heart. It’s saying “I’m ready for a do-over,” and the good news is, friends, it’s available to us all, every moment, every breath.
We’re not just marking days off a calendar; we’re marking moments of meaning. It’s Lent, and it’s go-time. Get excited about who you’ll become on the other side of these forty days.

This is my first Lent experience.
I drink far too much coffee each day. For Lent I will give up coffee and switch to hot water. Hopefully I will kick the habit.
Your mention of love is important. Yesterday I proposed marriage to Kay on Valentine’s Day. She accepted and. We are now happily engaged. Life is great.
